Mi Xun Teahouse Awarded One Star and Chengdu's First Ever Green Star, While Tivano Earns Recognition for the Fourth Consecutive Year
Upper House Chengdu is proud to announce its exceptional achievements in the prestigious MICHELIN Guide Chengdu 2025. Mi Xun Teahouse has retained its coveted one MICHELIN star for the fourth consecutive year and is beyond thrilled to receive the first MICHELIN Green Star in Chengdu, recognising its pioneering efforts to put eco-responsibility at the heart of its culinary approach and operations. Tivano also celebrates being a MICHELIN-Selected restaurant for the fourth consecutive year, strengthening Upper House Chengdu’s leading position in Chengdu’s dynamic dining scene.
“Over the years, MICHELIN Inspectors have been paying attention to all measures taken by Mi Xun Teahouse in terms of sustainable practices. In addition to their good attempts at sourcing local seasonal ingredients, organic tea, and local wine, they also design special menus, selecting eco-friendly ingredients from communities around giant panda habitats, and helping local farms to survive from those areas. Moreover, the servers were well trained to educate customers about protecting wildlife. This restaurant certainly sets a good example for local dining”, stated The MICHELIN Guide.
Christian Kronast, General Manager of Upper House Chengdu, expressed his excitement, saying, "These honours reflect the exceptional dedication and creativity of our culinary teams at Mi Xun Teahouse and Tivano. Chef Steven and Chef Nick have brought fresh perspectives, furthering our commitment to excellence, sustainability, and community engagement. We are immensely proud to continue delivering unique dining experiences."
Mi Xun Teahouse – One MICHELIN Star and the First Michelin Green Star in Chengdu
Located within the historic Zhanghuali building, Mi Xun Teahouse remains a pillar of exquisite vegetarian dining experience in Chengdu. Under Chef Steven's leadership, the restaurant has not only upheld its reputation for vegetarian cuisine but has also emerged as a leader in sustainable dining. The Michelin Green Star celebrates Mi Xun Teahouse's commitment to environmentally conscious practices, from embracing a zero-waste philosophy to sourcing local, eco-friendly ingredients.
Mi Xun Teahouse's sustainable approach is exemplified in its "Farm-to-Table" seasonal tasting menu, introduced in February 2024. This initiative continues to evolve, sourcing ingredients from communities near giant panda habitats to support local farmers and promote wildlife and habitat conservation. Mi Xun Teahouse also implements sustainable practices in the kitchen, such as using the chopped leftover mushrooms to create base soup in the “Farm-to-Table” MICHELIN tasting menu’s soup and picking herbs from Upper House Chengdu's own herb garden. By working closely with eco-conscious tea plantations and local wineries, Mi Xun Teahouse offers organic tea pairings and locally produced wines, further reducing its environmental footprint while enhancing the guest experience.
Tivano – MICHELIN-Selected Restaurant
Tivano elevates the essence of Italian cuisine to new heights with its vibrant and exquisitely crafted dishes. The restaurant's innovative, multi-layered design creates a warm and immersive dining experience. Within its inviting space, an open grill ignites culinary creativity, while the stone-fired pizza oven lends rustic charm to each perfectly baked pizza.
Chef Nick's approach blends Italian heritage with the dynamic spirit of Chengdu's culinary scene, resulting in a menu that celebrates both tradition and innovation. His dishes reflect a passion for authenticity and a commitment to delivering a sophisticated dining experience that is as visually striking as it is flavourful.
